Original Engine and Transmission
ALL Receipts and Records to new!
You should know this vehicle was sold new in Grand Junction, Colorado to the original owner. Many years ago she moved to Vancouver Washington where the car has stayed the remainder of it's life and that is where I found it!
She ordered the vehicle with the following equipment:
Marina Blue Paint
Grey Leatherette Upholstery
Steering Wheel Cover
Rear Gravel Guards
Rear Engine Lock
Locking Gas Cap
All of which are still on the car today! With one minor exception......... VW enthusiasts will note the lack of headrests on the front seats. Lucille stood a mere 4'10" and as such felt the headrests were not only unnecessary, but they also blocked her rearward view. So she marched down to a local auto upholstery shop and had them removed, and the tops of the seats recovered in a striking grey vinyl material to match (I have the original receipt for the work too!) This gives the interior a more "retro" feel as well as makes a great story.
Speaking of paperwork and documentation the future owner of "Lucille" will be pleased to have what amounts to FULL documentation. Including but not limited to:
Window Sticker
Sales Documents
Registrations
Sales Receipts for Service and Parts
Handwritten Notes from Lucille documenting a variety of drives she took, service work etc.
Recent Repair Work / Tires Etc.
All original Keys, Manuals, Hang Tags, Books, Pouches, Jack, Lug Wrench etc.
Suitcase is filled with original tools, paperwork, fan belt, etc. exactly as it was when Lucille was motoring around.
A "Club" Anti-theft device. She was very worried someone would borrow her beauty without asking!
The original owner loved the car until she passed away a short time ago. Prior to her death she gave the car to her neighbor and friend of many, many years so she could see him enjoy the car before she passed. While it had been excercised consistently for its life, he chose to spend some $$$ on updating and tuning up the engine. This included a new carburetor, manifold gaskets, exhaust gaskets, spark plugs, fuel filter, points, wire etc. etc. All of this was completed just 200 miles ago.
Her friend recently had a bout with failing health and space issues and "Lucille" needed to find a new home. I was honored to be able to be the temporary owner and have the opportunity to learn about the vehicle, the owners as well as polish it up to the level it is today.
I recently performed the following maintenance and cosmetic improvements:
New 165/R15 Tires
Resprayed Wheels back to Original Silver Satin Finish
Professional Paint Polish and Detail to the all Original Paintwork (looks better than new)
New Exhaust Tips
New VW HubCaps
Full Vehicle Inspection
Work Completed by www.FolksWerks.com (Local VW Shop / Parts Provider / Enthusiasts)
What I didn't do is remove some of the "patina" of the vehicle. The original owner was a AAA Member and those decals are still present. As is the selling dealers decal, senior center parking permit, Tax/Registration Tags etc. In my opinion removing these would remove the character of the car. I hope you agree!
Additionally this car drives as good as it looks. Transmission and clutch are buttery smooth and silent. The engine purrs as it should. Steering is tight and solid too. All the switches and controls feel like a much newer car. In fact if I didn't tell you the ODO had been replaced this car looks and drives like the 18K miles it currently shows on the new ODO. (Original was replaced at 65K.) I have personally driven this car more than 100 miles with nothing to note other than a huge smile on my face the entire time!
I would love this Beetle to go to a loving home. The original owner kept her garaged and babied the entire time and it would be so great to see a new owner take the keys and continue in her footsteps. While this car could be driven anywhere, it should be prized by its new owner. Are you the right home to adopt "Lucille"? Feel free to call, or stop in and bring your most discriminating eyes to look this cutie over! You will NOT be disappointed.
Potential buyers should be aware that this is a VERY rare car. This is one of the last Flat Glass Windshield Bodies to leave the factory. Most buyers opted for the larger bubble glass cars in the 70's, but purists really appreciated the flat glass style that is a key styling feature of all the original Bugs and Beetles. You can easily see this as an original with the location of the spare tire, straight tube axle front end, and of course the flat glass.
Please pay close attention to the 50+ photos that detail the caliber of car this is! Note the rust and damage free pan. The detail photos of the front and rear showing how this bug body has never been involved in an accident. Headliner is clean and undamaged. Dashboard, Steering Wheel, Carpets, etc. all lack any cracks or damage. With the history and rarity of this particular model, you would be remiss to let this piece of VW history pass you by!
